| CHIGGIO’S KINETIC ART GALLERY |
|
|
After twenty years out of the limelight, we were able to attend the exhibition of Ennio Ludovico Chiggio, ex-member of Gruppo Enne, a group of artists formed in Padua in 1959. The exhibition was hosted at the Daniele Gallery of Art and Design in Padua.
An exhibition with a suggestive title which acts out ‘‘work laid bare by its machinery...’’ that also unveils the procedures the artist has used since the Sixties to create his works. Indeed a series of small designing machines were on show in the gallery, which allowed experimental verification for the creation of objects.
A publication and DVD were presented at the exhibition, explaining the nanotechnologies used by the artist in his own, and also external supporting workshops, at Cielle Customers where our laser and engraving cutters are used to cut materials and alloys.
Materials used include methacrylates, aluminium, brass, steel, and hardbacks organised into perceptual themes such as interference, displacement, margins, sequences, kinetic structuring.
Those of us from Cielle visited the exhibition with great interest, thinking that if our machinery manages to produce art, just imagine what it could manage in normal manufacturing. Therefore we decided to follow the mental process of the artist, which is leading to special research. The artist Chiggio told Mr. De Lazzari, the owner of Cielle, of his intention to create some large scale works in the future which, compared with the nanotechnologies, are at the other end of the spectrum.
We’ll await the new works with bated breath! Congratulations once more on the exhibition’s success and also to Mr. Chiggio and those who work with him!

| PARTICIPATE IN THE BULINO D’ORO (GOLD ENGRAVER) COMPETITION |
|
|
BULINO D’ORO – Engraving and cutting industry competition
The Italian light cutting and engraving Bulino d’oro competition, gives recognition to the distinctive qualities that Italian engravers bring to the entire market.
The idea of the competition is to consolidate a sense of belonging for those who have chosen to work in this sector, by rewarding the professionals who have contributed to promoting the Made in Italy brand throughout the world.
Competition entries will be exhibited in an area dedicated to the competition, and judged by an independent panel of experts who will announce the winners during the event.

| CLOSURE OF THE VISCOM REGIONAL 2010 EVENTS |
|
|
The Viscom Regional 2010 events ended successfully in May, having seen the world of the visual communication industry brought to the areas of Rome and Catania. More than 1000 registrations were made via the event’s official website. The two events provided local entrepreneurs with an opportunity to share experiences, make new partnerships, go away with new ideas, take up new challenges and ride out the recovery, thanks to the possibility that these initiatives offer for effective development and adding value to the business.
In addition to the exhibition areas and technical and marketing seminars, live demonstrations were also included this year, giving visual communication professionals the opportunity to have a close look at techniques and applications, exchange ideas, physically touch the concrete results that can be obtained, and get inspiration for new ideas and solutions in their own businesses.

First photo: a model of the Palazzo della Civilta’ Italiana (also known as the Square Colosseum), one of the symbols of EUR, the district in Rome. It was created by Marika Mangano, an assistant in the model workshop in the Faculty of Architecture at Cesena, and cut entirely with a laser.
Second photo: the tactile map created by Antonio Tringale, a skilled technician at the Regional Braille Printworks in Catania, using an Alfa 35/27 machine, equipped with an automatic device for Braille writing and special software developed for the production of this type of product.

| CIELLE & ONYX: A WINNING COMBINATION FOR DIGITAL MANUFACTURING AND PRECISION CUTTING |
|
|
New objectives and horizons for the world of digital printing: the FPC (Flying Precision Cutting) software from Cielle now communicates directly with the very common RIP ONYX systems, the workflow solutions for large format printing and cutting.
The cutting and finishing phase for exhibition, display and POP materials, as well as all materials for visual communication and industrial production carried out in digital service centres and advanced manufacturing companies, is one of the most delicate and demanding that there is: a lot of care, work and operator time is spent on positioning materials accurately on the cutting table, correct machine setup, right tool choice and setting the necessary IT commands.
Many variables are usually not within the operator’s immediate control – the possible deformation of material with respect to the starting design, the choice of the most suitable and convenient cut on a case by case basis, the exact tracing of cutting marks and the resulting positioning of the sheet or slab of material.
CIELLE, capitalising on its unlimited experience in the technological cutting sector, has helped to update the world of digital printing: a world which moves quite quickly but still has to perfect some key aspects in its processing procedures.
This is made possible by companies which are specialists in their sector, and by sharing technical market leader knowledge, and this is the aim of the partnership between CIELLE and ONYX.
The FPC software by CIELLE, in conjunction with RIP Production House by ONYX, automatically registers printed materials. A small, but very precise, latest generation digital camera acquires images of cutting marks, and detects their position, wherever the panel or sheet is on the work bench. The operator identifies and confirms the type of material to be cut (also by reading bar codes which may be on the sheets), and puts the machine into operation. The machine selects the most suitable tool, calculates the cutting length and carries out the pre-set action, continuing to calculate and verify the variables otherwise destined to escape the operator.
The operator does not have to do anything with the RIP ONYX file; the automatically integrated ONYX-CIELLE workflow only requires the appropriate selection from an easy-to-understand menu, which can be customised according to different customer processing requirements.
All this in very short timescales, and with a precision that removes any approximation. As a result, processing in digital printing service centres assumes new pride and end quality that, having long been considered ‘minor production’, instead offers a great opportunity for integration with manufacturing companies, in relation to spin-off and customised services for different applications.
This result has been made possible by the fruitful partnership between CIELLE and AmC COLOR-ONYX ITALIA, that has led to system implementation and the file import in CIELLE’s FPC software of vectorial files with the cutting outline generated automatically by RIP ONYX.
